Golborne opened up their account for the new season with a pleasing
victory, but showed touches of rustiness which goes with opening
fixtures.
The game started with Golborne defending 2 sets, but fought to get
the ball back and a big drive by Brendan Lowe set the field position
to get the ball wide to Rob Taylor who sprinted for the corner and
went in for the first try of the season.
More pressure from Golborne led to Leyland mistakes, and again
driving towards the line, Liam Cragg went over from acting half back
converted superbly by Drew Darbyshire, to put Golborne into a 10-0
lead at half time.
The second half saw further pressure on the Leyland try line. After
a 50 metre Connor Topping break, the ball came out to Sam Sinclair
who went in for another score. Golborne's defence kept Leyland
camped in their own half, making the attack easier for them
territorially. Parkside worked the ball one way, and passed the
ball wide to the right flank for James Melling to collect and go in
from 10 metres. Further socres from Rob Taylor after a great kick
by Darbyshire, and Sam Sinclair adding his second and Golborne's
sixth. This closed the scoreline at 0-26.
Very pleasing to open the season with an away win, in which the
against tally read zero. Golborne can take confidence into future
games knowing that there is still much improvement in the side.
Special mention to Tyler Hope who completed his Rugby League debut
extremely well.

Golborne travelled up to Widnes for their second away game of the
new season and after a superb start, failed to maintain the required
level of concentration to come back with the win.
Parkside began at a great pace, putting in a huge effort in defence,
and playing some great rugby in attack. After plugging away at the
West Bank defence, the ball shifted between the hands of Cragg,
Darbyshire and Buck then onto Rob Taylor to get his third try in two
games beside the post. The try was converted with ease by Drew
Darbyshire. West Bank got straight back into the game for some fast
hands getting the ball to wide to the right hand side for the centre
to crash over. Quick play the balls by West Bank saw them gain
their second try, when Golborne's defence couldn't get back in time,
the burst through the line again to score outwide and give a half
time score of 8-6.
The try before half time proved a crucial one as chances for both
side were not taken, until the West Bank scrum half picked up the
ball at the base of the scrum to run half the pitch and score under
the posts, converted by the Blacks to complete the scoring at 14-6.
This was a spirited performance by Golborne of which they can take
alot of positives from. The workload of many of the players,
notably by Sam Sinclair and Troy Prince who hit 35 tackles between
them. Also mentions to Liam Clarke and Grant Keyes who both hit
double figures in the tackle count.
