What a buzz this week! News is
that we won the ‘Community
Hero’ award and were presented
with a certificate and bottle of
Champagne by the sponsors
Hobsons Solicitors on Monday.
This is the latest in a line of
awards over the last two years
which include:
The Wigan and
Leigh Service Area Building the
Team Award, Young Volunteer
Award and Community Development
Award
The Rugby
Football League Building the
Team Award and National
Volunteer of the Year Award
The Barla Club of
the Year Award
The Wigan Borough
Sports – Club of the Year,
Finalist Volunteer of the Year
and Unsung Hero Awards
The Greater
Manchester Finalist Club of the
Year Award
All I can say is
keep up the good work. None of
our volunteers do what they do
for recognition, but it is great
as a club to see all the hard
work and dedication put in over
the years, being appreciated and
honoured by others. It will
certainly fill up our trophy
cabinet.
On the subject of
the trophy cabinet you will all
now notice that thanks to our
fund raising efforts and our
superior craftsmen Les Watkinson
and Billy Leech, we now have a
matching piece of furniture –
namely the new upstairs BAR!
We have spoken to
Carlsberg about getting the
pumps on and the work is to be
scheduled as soon as possible.
We need to create a special
atmosphere in this room then you
will use it like your very own
pub, hence reinvesting your beer
money back into your own
facilities. Let me have your
suggestions.
We were sorry to
see the under 14s knocked out of
the National Cup but warmly
congratulate them on going so
far. Their achievement this
season has been amazing and we
are grateful for the publicity
you have brought to our club.
Please continue in the same way
as we are very proud of you.
Tomorrow our
under 12s take to the field
against Rylands in the
semi-final of the NWC cup for
their division. Please come
down here to support them. They
kick off on the back left pitch
at 10.30. Wouldn’t it be great
if they get into a cup final –
sounds like the making of a
great club day!
Just on a final
note, I am now organising the
club presentation nights. Most
of the dates have now been
booked and are in the club
diary. Can I please ask that
last year’s winners please
return their shields and cups to
me by the end of March.
